IGARSS 2023 Women Mentoring Women Luncheon

Women Luncheon at IGARSS 2023 11:30AM – 1:00 PM -  90 attendees!

In a male-dominated field, opportunities for women, minorities and their allies within geoscience and remote sensing to network and engage in a safe environment fosters the necessary growth needed in our society and the larger community. A delicious lunch was served while the IDEA committee introduced its ongoing initiatives such as the Women Mentoring Women (WMW) program, professional development microgrants and the events curated by the Women in Africa sub-committee. Through these initiatives, the IDEA committee inspires the next generation of GRSS by providing opportunities to develop important skills, learn from experienced scientists and come together as a community. During the luncheon, an inspirational keynote was delivered by a current mentee-mentor pair in the WMW Program, Paula and Anushree, where they spoke about their mentorship experience and how the program has progressed both their personal and professional development. As luncheon participants finished eating, an interactive bingo game was played to encourage networking. Attendees mingled with their bingo cards to find other attendees that fit each bingo square, creating an informal and fun opportunity for people to learn new things about one another and get chatting. The Women in GRSS Luncheon was incredibly successful in bringing together members of the GRSS community to celebrate the talented women within the society and support each other through networking, and IDEA can’t wait for the next one!
